Why Do Business in Nevada?
Northern Nevada is a great place to do business.

In fact, Inc. magazine, the leading publication for small businesses, ranked the Reno area Number 1 on its 2005 list of Best Places for Doing Business in America.

"Nevada Ranks Fourth Best Tax Climate in U.S. Reports the 2010 State Business Tax Climate Index"

"The American Legislative Exchange Council Ranks Nevada No.7 in Nation for the Best Economic Outlook."

"The 15th Annual Kosmont-Rose Cost of Doing Business Survey Ranks Reno Among the Top Ten Least Expensive Cities in America for Doing Business."

Surrounded by the Sierra Nevada Mountains and located less than a hour from Lake Tahoe, the Reno-Sparks area offers a spectacular quality of life, lots of outdoor recreation such as skiing, golf and kayaking, and plenty of world-class restaurants, shopping and entertainment. Reno is also home to the University of Nevada, Reno, three major medical centers, the Reno-Tahoe International Airport and the Nevada Museum of Art.

Located on Interstate 80, Reno-Sparks is just a few hours from the Bay Area and has become the distribution and logistics gateway to the West for major manufacturers such as General Motors Service Parts and national retailers such as Amazon.com and Barnes and Noble. Logistics and distribution are the largest segment of the Northern Nevada economy and the second largest industry in the United States.

The area features about 73+ million square feet of industrial real estate and 6.8+ million square feet of office space. In 2009 the population of the Washoe County SMSA was 424,000+.

And Nevada is well known for being business friendly -- unlike our neighbor to the west. Nevada tax laws make doing business in the Reno / Sparks area beneficial. According to the Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada, the state has:

  • Consistent tax and business policies
  • No corporate income tax
  • No personal income tax
  • No unitary tax
  • No franchise tax
  • No inventory tax
  • No inheritance tax
  • No estate or gift tax
  • No special intangible tax

The state also compares favorably to California in other areas such as cost of living, real estate costs and workers' compensation rates.
